Laguno

About the project

A bot built out of frustration. Seriously.

Laguno exists because Michu got fed up with bots that didn't speak the language of his servers, with wiring up eight bots to do the job of one, and with ban messages that read like a corporate handbook.

Laguno hugging a heart

So he picked up TypeScript, Discord.js, and built it himself. A bot with a voice, literally. Laguno has moods. Some days it is stressed and warns you in capital letters. Some days it is so sleepy it nearly nods off halfway through the message. Always in your own language.

This is not a company product. It is one person's project — someone who wanted something better for his own servers and decided to build it.

How we got here

A story in five chapters.

Chapter 1

The problem

Portuguese-speaking servers ran on borrowed bots: commands in English, warnings in English, even the bans came out in English. Did it work? More or less. Did it make sense? None at all. Michu just wanted a bot that talked like the people he knew.

Chapter 2

The first version

Warn, ban, kick — barely more than that. But every message sounded like someone who actually lives on Discord, not like a manual translated in a hurry. European and Brazilian Portuguese from day one. It was small, but it already had an accent.

Chapter 3

The personality

This is where Laguno stopped being "another bot". It grew moods: one day it wakes up stressed and warns you IN CAPITALS, the next it is so sleepy it almost falls asleep mid-sentence. The same warn never arrives the same way twice.

Chapter 4

The dashboard

Setting bots up with memorised commands and JSON files belongs back in 2015. Welcomes, logs, auto-mod, reaction roles, tickets — it all switches on and off with clicks, in a dashboard built from scratch. Change it there, it changes on Discord. And the other way round, too.

Chapter 5 · in progress

Now

The lagoon never stops growing: there is always a new module on the way and a detail to fine-tune. The foundations are done — a bot that does real work and has a character of its own. The rest is history still being written.
